2008 BOWL-A-THON Hey, Everybody, Guess what time it is!
This is an exciting time of year at RHCS! We are about to kick off our 2008 Bowl-a-Thon! What is a Bowl-a-Thon you might ask? Each year the students at RHCS collect pledges from friends and family to help us reach a goal. In previous years we have raised up to nearly $30,000 with this one school-wide fund raiser. All students from K-4 to 12th grade are encouraged to participate. Some of the projects we have completed with the use of the Bowl-a-Thon money are new carpet, blinds and air conditioning for elementary classrooms, an updated computer lab, a new playground and a large part of the new kitchen.
This year we are shooting for $20,000! We can reach this goal with the help of everyone. Some of the projects we are considering for the money are repairing the gym floor, purchasing new divider curtains for between the elementary classrooms and a clock for the gym.
WHAT is the Bowl-a-thon?
The Bowl-a-thon is a fun-filled fundraising event that everyone can enjoy. From K4 to 12th grade and parent to teachers, everyone can get wrapped up in the excitement of making our school the best it can be.
WHEN is the Bowl-a-thon?
February 28, 2008. Students from K4 –12 will take a bus ride to the bowling alley (Troy Lanes) for a fun and exciting morning or afternoon of bowling. When the bowling is finished, the children will be returned to school by bus. The afternoon is expected to end at approximately 3:00 p.m.
HOW does the Bowl-a-thon work?
• A kick off pep rally will be held the morning of January 15, 2008 to explain the Bowl-a-thon. You are welcome to attend.
• Each participating child will invite friends and family to sponsor our fundraiser.
• Each sponsor may choose to pledge your child with a per pin pledge or with a fixed amount pledge. Fixed amount pledges must be collected at the time the pledge is made. (Please make checks payable to Rochester Hills Christian School.
• After the sponsor fills out the pledge envelope, the student will return the completed envelope to his or her teacher. Be sure to complete all the required information on the envelope to ensure accurate records for winner accuracy and tax purposes.
• Let the games begin. For those who wish to bowl but do not want to collect pledges, you may do so by donating $25.00 to Rochester Hills Christian School to defray the cost of lunch and bowling.
• Collect your pledges. After you bowl, you will have one week to collect all your pledges. Be sure to turn them in to your teacher as quickly as possible.
• Pledge amounts will be totaled and tracked for prizes and awards. After the event a pep rally will be held and prizes will be given to all those who participate.
What kind of incentives and awards do we have?
Each week the highest pledge contributor from each class K-4 through 6th grade will receive a prize. Posters will be in each classroom with a running total for each student and for the entire class. At the end of the Bowl-a-Thon, the class with the highest total of pledges (averaged per student) and the top 20 pledge collectors for the entire school will attend a party at Pump It Up. We will also have a school-wide ice cream party for every student who participates. A minimum $25 pledge is required to participate on the day of bowling. Free lunch is served on the day of bowling as well.
We will need parents to help in several areas of the Bowl-a-Thon for which family service hours will be given. The hours are available on a first come first served basis, so don’t wait to call if you are interested in helping.
Parents are needed to help with the students on the lanes at the bowling alley. We will do our best to put you on the same lane as your child. Please call Amy Montgomery (248-770-3803) if you would like to help. We also need parents to help in the lunch room on the day of bowling. A couple moms are needed to help bake cupcakes for the day of bowling also. A few parents are needed to help with the ice cream party as well. If you are interested in helping with the lunch room, cupcakes or ice cream party, please call Dawn Patton (248-396-9405).
